My Money Plan
Nearly two months ago, I ran into some serious financial problems. I’ll avoid telling the specifics as I realize I’m not the only going through this and you all have your own problems, but it is important to know that my situation is difficult and seems almost impossible to recover from. In my life thus far, I’ve really never had to worry about financial stress… until now. And let me tell you, it was not a pretty sight! It hit me like a ton of bricks!
For days and days, I researched on the Internet hoping to find advice on how to solve this particular problem. After reading countless blogs and articles, I was left feeling even more tired and hopeless than before. It was inevitable- I was doomed!
I came into work a couple of week’s later feeling very frustrated and down. Obviously I wasn’t successful at putting on my happy face that day because a co-worker of mine noticed my stress and nonchalantly asked if everything was ok? I briefly told this person about the financial hardships that I was experiencing and the ongoing stress it was causing me. Without a moments thought, this co-worker replied and said, “Have you watched My Money Plan? LearnKey offers it… You should definitely watch it! It has changed my life!”
I appreciated the suggestion but thought to myself “Yeah right… how could anything really help me? I just need a lot of money- not training about money.” I went throughout the rest of the day unconvinced, with no plan to watch anything. However, as I was packing up at the end of the day, this coworker came by my desk again and said, “Watch it… You won’t regret it” and handed me the discs.
That very night I went home and began to watch the training. Within moments of it starting, I could already relate to what was being taught. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and began to take notes. I was immediately hooked.
Obviously I don’t have time to discuss everything that I’ve learned so far, but I wanted to share a few of the points that really impacted me and my particular situation. Here they are:
1- Allocating money to savings is in fact spending because you’re putting it aside to be spent at a later date.
2- You can have ANYTHING you want- you just can’t have EVERYTHING you want!
3- Money spent on savings should be divided into 3 different accounts and earmarked for these specific categories:
a) Emergency- 20%
b) Emotional- 20%
c) Long Term- 60%
Geez… Had I known and thought about these few simple concepts before my current financial troubles, I may not have been in this predicament! You see, the truth is, I’ve always had the mentality that nothing bad will ever happen to me- boy was I wrong! Financial problems arise at anytime due to a myriad of different reasons and there is no way to ever escape that! However, there is a way to be better prepared and in control of your individual financial situation. It is possible!
I’ve only completed half of the My Money Plan training and already I feel like I’m on a much healthier, realistic, and long lasting path to financial freedom. Thanks to that special co-worker who encouraged me to watch My Money Plan! It’s always embarrassing to admit you may have a problem, but I’m so glad I did. It’s changed my way of thinking tremendously!
