Fun(ded) With Perkins
Educators struggling for funds to provide proper instructional experiences to their students, may be able to rely on a Perkins Grant for some of their needs. The Perkins Grant, outlined in the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998, provides funding for school districts and community colleges. The purpose of the funding is fourfold:
- to build on the efforts of states and localities to develop challenging academic standards;
- to promote the development of services and activities that integrate academic, vocational and technical instruction and that link secondary and postsecondary education;
- to increase state and local flexibility to provide services and activities; and
- to disseminate national research and to provide professional development and technical assistance that will improve vocational and technical education programs.
It is the fourth purpose where LearnKey’s library of vocational, and technical education videos can prove invaluable to a school or district seeking funding.
With courses ranging from Automotive (MAST), to Learning Office 2007, to CISSP: Telecommunications and Network Security; LearnKey helps applicants to aggressively meet standards set for Perkins Grant Application. Learnkey account reps report : “School districts may receive up to $1200 in Perkins funds for each student that passes the MOS or MCAS exams.” Although the specific funding requirements vary from State to State having trained students and instructors is a not to be overlooked benefit.
Parents, teachers and administrators are especially attracted to the LearnKey solution because students can earn “dual credit” for many of the globally recognized certifications. Students are able to pass college exams based on the instruction they receive from the LearnKey solution and are not required to sit through semesters of classes.
