Financial Literacy Debt Series: Quick Money Saving Ideas
So yesterday the blog talked about tracking your spending so you can find places where you can save. Now today we are going to give you some ideas!
Take your lunch to work
This has been estimated to save you over one thousand dollars a year, why not do it. If you feel like this is depriving you, start with bringing lunch three days a week and work your way up to not eating out at all.
Eat at home
Instead of going out to a nice dinner for date night. Stay in, make it a competition to see who can make the cheapest dinner that you both enjoy, then cook it together. You will appreciate it more!
Rent movies
Instead of going out to the movies rent movies. Forgo fighting the crowds and you can save close to $14 a trip to the movies or more. You also get to be comfortable in your pajamas!
Walk
If you can, walk when you have errands that need to be done. Not only will you get exercise, you will save money on gas. Saving money and being fit!
Turn the AC up and the heat down
Use more blankets in the winter and fans in the summer.
Use household items to clean
Vinegar, lemon, and baking soda are often used to clean. These three products are cheap and green. So you can save money and help the environment!
Cancel the Gym Membership
Find ways to workout at home. There are great workouts you can do at home that will save you the $20+ per month membership fee.
Print your own photos
Save by printing photos at home versus paying to have them printed.
Shop in your closet
Instead of going to the mall take everything out of your closet and make sure it is cleaned and ironed so the next time you are looking for something it is ready. Another good idea is to take pictures of different outfits so you have all the options in front of you.
Swap clothes and accessories with friends
Have a clothes swap where you all bring things that are still in good shape, but you do not wear anymore. You will all go home with new outfits without spending any money.
Make coffee at home
Buying coffee every morning at a cafe can be expensive, making it at home can save a lot of money.
Host parties
Cut back on the nights you spend out. Have each of your friends take a Friday night and host a theme night. Instead of paying for expensive drinks and cover charges, stay in and save!
There are a lot of things that we spend money on, so there are also a lot of opportunities to save. If you have any great money savings tips out there let us know!
