Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope everyone has a great day filled with way too much chocolate and candy!

So today is not all about candy and flowers, there is actually some interesting history behind the reason why we celebrate today. It is still a mystery who exactly we are celebrating, but there are some very good theories. There are at least three saints named Valentine or some variation and all three were martyred, perhaps this is why there is so much mystery surrounding the origin of this holiday. There are a few theories about who Valentine was, from a priest who performed secret weddings for young lovers and was killed for it to a man named Valentine who sent the first Valentine and signed it “From your Valentine” to a man who attempted to bust people out of jail. I like the first theory myself, but whatever the reason is it sounds mysterious and my sweet tooth is thankful for it.

Here are some fun facts about today:

  • One billion cards are estimated to be sent each year.
  • Women buy 85% of all valentines.
  • Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the U.K., France, and Australia.
  • They even sent Valentine greetings in the Middle Ages.
  • Esther A. Howland made the first commercial Valentine’s Day cards in 1840 in the U.S.

Whatever it is you do today make sure it is sweet!

Happy Holidays!

Get Out Your Weenie Whistles…

For many people, today was just an ordinary late-October morning – cold, breezy, possibly damp. LearnKey employees at the St. George, UT office, however, were greeted this morning by the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile parked outside our building. Because nothing says “out of the ordinary” like a giant mobile wiener, this caused many photo opportunities (such as Trevor and Kari above) and Facebook posts containing those photos for us and the surrounding businesses. Whatever the reason for being here, I’m fairly certain several wishes were made this morning by LearnKey employees and the residents of Southern Utah regarding their current status as an Oscar Meyer wiener.

Inventor of Cell Phone: We Knew Someday Everyone Would Have One

As I was skimming around CNN.com today, catching up on techie news, I found this awesome article called Inventor of Cell Phone: We Knew Someday Everyone Would Have One written by Tas Anjarwalla. I was fascinated as I read the history of the cell phone- which I knew nothing about before.

I don’t even own a home phone. My cell phone is my life! When my cell dies, I feel completely shut off from the world. I get a panicky feeling knowing that I’m unreachable for a temporary amount of time. I can’t really remember what life was like before I had a cell phone- and I’m not that old!

It was a  really great read- check it out…

Tom’s Blooper Reel

We love Tom Carpenter here at LearnKey! Actually he’s heading back into our studio today to begin the filming of Server+ and because we love him so much, we thought that this time around we should honor him! So, we brainstormed for a couple of weeks about what we could do to express our gratitude publicly and well, we all agreed that this video would do the job perfectly!

ENJOY!

Thanks for being a good sport Tom!
